"The small-plates phenomenon has permeated menus of nearly every cuisine -- Spanish, Asian, Italian -- but it's not often you can find them all under one roof. At Askew, a stylish new global tapas lounge, chef Chris Lim (Town, Daniel and Upstairs at '21') prepares finger food in addition to fancier fare, such as beet and goat cheese salad jazzed up with sesame and Asian pear" >> more |

Chris Lim, who worked in the inventive kitchen at Town, has created a cuisine that's as full of depth as it is of surprises. The flavor influences are wide-ranging but never cursory, and there's a clear unity to the cooking. Designer Karim Rashid . . .has given Askew a playfully hip feel, with geometric graphics in bright fuchsia and green, and eye-catching details like a trick reversible menu. |

| Small plates make for good meals, especially when shared. Askew offers such creations as beets and red cabbage with goat cheese, Asian pears and sesame seeds, along with jerk chicken served on a skewer with sour orange glaze slaw and chickpea crepes, all for $15 or less. Karim Rashid designed the funky space, his interpretation of the restaurant's name, hence the interacting angled surfaces ... Neither the bar tab nor the plate sharing should break the bank. | |

Enter Askew, and you might feel like you’ve stepped into a scene from Barbarella—pink-and-fuchsia-flowered Lucite tables, white plastic chairs, and lime green-patterned walls. And though the mod décor, groovy music, and tapas-style menu make for a casual vibe, the cuisine is surprisingly complex. Standouts are the tempura shrimp—plump, in a light, crisp batter—and the hamachi ceviche, in which the fish is complemented rather than overpowered by jalapeños and cilantro. >> more |
